Sometimes, the story that we so easily and beautifully visualize in our minds has the greatest of diffilcuties translating to paper. Whenever I feel creatively blocked, I do anyone of the following:

1) Take a break. I don't force the creativity out of me, rather, I walk away from the manuscript for a couple of hours or days if need be. You will know when the time is right to pick up where you left off.

2) Immerse yourself in the arts. Choose whichever medium inspires you most. In my case, I love watching classic 1940s film noir movies. When I need an extra boost of inspiration, I put on some classical music to fire up the neuron. Reading a well inspired novel also works to rattle the mind and mitigate some of the effects of writer's block.

3) Switch it up. When nothing else seems to be working, I work on another chapter. The brain does not always work in a linear fashion, and if you are inspired about the way the story ends, write that instead. When it comes to writing, there is no magic formula for success. (less)

There are going to be a lot of obstacles along the way, and there are going to be people out there who wish to discredit your hard work, and who wish to minimize the time, energy and effort you've put into your project. Always stay the course, and don't let yourself get discouraged by the naysayers.

Also, elicit feedback from beta readers, family and friends to get multiple perspectives. Make sure that these people enjoy reading the genre in which your story belongs to. Don't be afraid to grow and evolve as an author just as your story undergoes the same growth.

Lastly, make yourself accessible to readers. I believe authors have a responsibility to discuss their works with the public, and to provide insight on the creative process when needed. Also, don't be afraid to reach out to other authors. Absorb as much as you can from the experiences of others. I wish you the best of luck on your writing journey. There is no greater feeling for an author in the world then to see your name on the cover of the book you've written. It makes the long, sometimes arduous journey that much more worthwhile.(less)
