Sacha Black is an author, rebel podcaster, and professional speaker.

She has five obsessions; words, expensive shoes, conspiracy theories, self-improvement, and breaking the rules.

Sacha writes books about people with magical powers and other books about the art of writing.

When she’s not writing, she can be found laughing inappropriately loud, sniffing musty old books, fangirling film and TV soundtracks, or thinking up new ways to break the rules.

She lives in Cambridgeshire, England, with her wife and genius, giant of a son.

I read a lot YA books, typically, fantasy, but also contemporary and a variety of other genres too.

While writing and preparing to write a book, I spend a lot of time researching conspiracies, ancient architecture and unusual places, people, and theories. I'm really visual so I like to draw inspiration from pictures, and I actively seek out photo opportunities, I can often be found negotiating my way into derelict buildings just to take pictures. I tend to find that if I do all those things, ideas just come to me out of the blue. (less)

“What separates a villain from a hero are the decisions and choices he makes.

Being ‘good’ and ‘moral’ is hard work, often painful and usually involves a lot of self-sacrifices which means it’s never the easy option. And that’s why villains tend to opt for the easy road because well, it’s easier and gives them what they want faster than doing it the right way. But that option just gives them a one-way ticket to the villain funfair of doom.”
Sacha Black, 13 Steps to Evil: How to Craft Superbad Villains

“It will teach you to craft villains so brilliantly twisted they’ll make your readers throw themselves like sacrificial lambs between the pages of your book.”
Sacha Black, 13 Steps to Evil: How to Craft Superbad Villains

“Motives are story mechanics, pillars of structural necessity. Without them, you’re fuckled, sideways…With a giant piranha covered pogo stick.”
