Hi!

When it comes to what character in my books most resembles me... I'm going to have to say Zeke from One More Sad Song. Not in terms of anything obvious or physical (I am not a sixteen-year-old skateboarder in love with my best friend, for instance), but something about writing Zeke felt so familiar and comfortable to me; I drew a lot of his emotional reactions to things directly from my own reactions to things.

Dialogue is a fun thing, and something I do think I'm pretty good at--one thing that I try to focus on is making each character sound consistent, and, if possible, completely distinct from one another. Another thing to do to improve dialogue is to listen to how people talk--something that's a little harder to do ATM, but even at the grocery store, eavesdrop a little!

Thank you for asking, and ha, I'll try to stay warm!(less)

Scott Lynch
“That's a sweet piece," said Jean, briefly forgetting to be aggravated. "You didn't snatch that off a street."

"No," said Locke, before taking another deep draught of the warm water in the decanter. "I got it from the neck of the governor's mistress."

"You can't be serious."

"In the governor's manor."

"Of all the -"

"In the governor's bed."

"Damned lunatic!"

"With the governor sleeping next to her."

The night quiet was broken by the high, distant trill of a whistle, the traditional swarming noise of city watches everywhere. Several other whistles joined in a few moments later.

"It is possible," said Locke with a sheepish grin, "that I have been slightly too bold.”
Scott Lynch, Red Seas Under Red Skies

John Flanagan
“...at the time, King Herbert felt that to remain safe, the kingdom needed an effective intelligence force."

"An intelligent force?" said Will.

"Not intelligent. Intelligence. Although it does help if your intelligence force was also intelligent.”
John Flanagan, The Ruins of Gorlan

Okay, good- once you get used to the site it's pretty good!

Maylee Ringuette and I like your profile picture a lot.

Maylee Ringuette I'm still working my way around. I really like it so far! It's pretty cool! I'm still like, uh what, but I think I'm figuring it out.

The only thing I'm like what is how you can show how much progress you're making with the book.

Oh my god I was just about to suggest that you start doing Goodreads.
