Katja H. Labonté is a Christian, an extreme bibliophile who devours over 365 books in a year, and an exuberant writer with a talent for starting short stories that explode into book series. She is a bilingual French-Canadian and has about a dozen topics she’s excessively passionate about (hint: that’s why she writes). Katja writes both contemporary and historical fiction, as well as non-magical historical and contemporary kingdom fiction, and covers themes of worth, love, peace, and Christian growth. She spends her days enjoying little things, growing in faith, learning life, and loving people. You can follow her life journey, find free books, browse her services, and more on her website and blog.

I haven't managed to fall off yet, either, despite all the bumps. To be more specific, I started experimenting with writing as a child (around 8-10?). It just came to me and had to be let out—stories were the best and I wanted more of my favourites! Eventually around 12 I started writing for serious when I met a girl who wrote seriously, and writing sounded like an easy career to have as an adult, so... I started pursuing that! My goals have changed since, but writing has been constant. :) (less)

Why Did I Write Single Characters?

This post was previously published as a guest post on Cate VanNostrand’s blog, Southern Story Scribbler. Thanks, Cate! When you pick up the average Christian YA novel, you tend to expect there’ll be romance. Especially when there’s a male and a female name mentioned in the blurb. And especially if there’s both a male and aContinue reading "Why Did I Write Single Characters?" Read more of this blog post »

“Oh, Eternal, how I praise you. You have brought light to the darkness, justice to the evil, and hope to the fearful.”
Katja H. Labonté, A Noble Comfort: A Blue Bird Retelling

“The Eternal was not defeated. The evil was not winning against him. He was still in control. ‘Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further.’ Like the master creator that he was, he knew how this tale would unroll. The perfect ending was not only thought of; it was coming. Nothing could change it. The villains could not surprise him by destroying a hero or putting up a greater fight than he expected. The story would draw to a close at the right time, and the climax was already a guaranteed victory.
The Eternal was not crushed or even slightly inconvenienced. He was winning. The evil might think it was successful, but its downfall was already irreversible.
The Almighty had already won the victory.”
Katja H. Labonté, A Noble Comfort: A Blue Bird Retelling

“So I tried to remember to pray over every chapter. Over every obstacle. Over every ‘I don't know what to do next.”
Katja H. Labonté, A Noble Comfort: A Blue Bird Retelling

“I don't really know; I'm not in the Operations Room, you see. All I do know is that the world has a Chief who was victorious when the powers of darkness struck at Him with everything they had. He has the plans today. The darkness won't last forever. There's a splendor beyond.

“Blake's song isn't really a song for England alone," said Dym. "It's a song for every land. We're all building the unseen Jerusalem together. But the powers of darkness don't want to see a time when the earth shall be filled with the glory of the God as the waters cover the sea.”

“As the years pass, I am coming more and more to understand that it is the common, everyday blessings of our common everyday lives for which we should be particularly grateful. They are the things that fill our lives with comfort and our hearts with gladness -- just the pure air to breathe and the strength to breath it; just warmth and shelter and home folks; just plain food that gives us strength; the bright sunshine on a cold day; and a cool breeze when the day is warm.”

Ahh okay, now that makes sense! Your shelves are WAY more organized than mine, heehee. Ig they kinda have to be, but still that's impressive!

Phoebe wrote: "Now you have me wondering - what do your different GR bookshelves mean? What's the difference between mtr, iir, tbs, etc - and the numbering system? This little brain is confused 😂"

Hm, okay, so...

IIR = Interested In Reading; MTR = Maybe To Read. They're the same thing, except one is Christian books (MTR) and one is secular books (IIR). They're basically just books I wanna read.
TBS = To Be Sorted. These are books that I want to check if I can get at Internet Archive. XD It's gotten a little out of hand.
TBR = To Be Read. That's books I own or can borrow from the library, family, etc.
WNR = Will Not Read. It's books I've already checked on and know they contain stuff which means I won't read them.
WTR = Want To Read. I save this exclusively for indie books and books from a series. It means books I really, REALLY want to read.

Books Paused is because I have a bad habit of starting books, then putting them aside and coming back later. I put them there instead of leaving them in my Currently Reading because that stresses me out if it's got many books lol.

As for the numbers, it's just because a Goodreads shelf malfunctions if it has more than 10,000 books, so I do 9,999 and then start a new once. Hence the IIR1, IIR2, and TBS2. I haven't reached the limit with the other shelves yet :)
