Scott Appleton is the author of the novels The Sword of the Dragon series, and The Neverqueen Saga, which are widely read by adults and younger readers.

Besides these, Scott has also published a collection of short speculative fiction (By Sword By Right) which runs the gamut of science-fiction, fantasy, allegory, romance, poetry, and biblical.

Driven by a love of storytelling and an appreciation for the craft, Scott has spoken extensively at events across the United States. His specialization in fiction editing and writing has garnered praise from some prominent writers.

Scott was born in Connecticut and grew up there. He actively pursued astronomy through his teen years, built ships-in-bottles and, throughout his life, read and wrote extensiv

Sometimes it is difficult to figure out exactly what inspired me to write The Sword of the Dragon series because that was such a long while ago. I originally wrote it as an omniscient POV story that ended up over 130,000-words in length. It covered an extensive number of characters, places, and a period of about thirty years from Oganna's birth until the final wrap-up with Stalwart (who you will meet in the later books of the series). I carried my emotions strongly through the manuscript, using my doubts about myself and others, my fears, my hopes, my highest ideals, and my deepest convictions. It truly is the story I always wanted to read because I put all the elements that matter to me into the characters and the story. Technology has been all-but-destroyed because I often feel like it presents so many challenges to leading a quiet, peaceable, reflective life. The consequences to the characters following a wrong path are severe because I wanted it to serve as a reminder to myself and others that ultimately God's favor is the only favor that matters, and his laws reward whereas sin destroys both us and those around us.

I hope this helps clarify what inspired me to write this series!(less)

The Vision for a Story’s End

Today I finished reading the second book in Patrick Rothfuss’s Kingkiller Chronicles and it left me reflecting on the importance of a story’s end. Why do we read a story, and especially a fantasy? Do we want to be dragged into the lives of characters that are endlessly searching without a resolution in sight? I venture most of us do want the story to have a resolution that satisfies us, makes us t

A sweeping epic that bridges the realm of dark fantasy with a high epic. The villains are as wicked as they come, vilest of the vile... cringeworthy. The heroes are as good as they come, and the romantic suspense is unmatched.

Feels like a return to fantasy the way it should be. Finally feel I might have found an old school fantasy adventure that embraces the traditional strengths of both male and female characters. The story is solid and I like Ashok as lead.
