I can't follow a recipe...

Okay, I guess it was lucky that today I had a trial run of the recipe I'm going to make on Saturday.

In my defense, I didn't know Brussels sprouts could do that.

It's a new concept

Leaves on the trees. I'm not used to it yet.

Four wheels again

I had a very nice weekend. It just wasn't the weekend I expected to have.

If you should ever need car repairs in South Minneapolis (unlikely, I know, unless you live in South Minneapolis), allow me to recommend Jim's Chicago 66 Service at 5400 Chicago Ave. They are honest and nice and economical. Thanks to them, I am back on the road after I drove over a nail and flattened a tire.

My apologies to those of you I missed at Fourth Street on Sunday. I meant well.

23andme DNA kit is now on sale

Ninety-nine dollars. That's sixty-six percent off. That's my idea of a sale. I am a satisfied customer, so I pass this on to any who may be interested.

Buccaneers!

If you happen to be in the vicinity of the Children's Theatre Company in Minneapolis, you don't need to stop talking like a pirate quite yet. You could see "Buccaneers," the pirate musical by Liz Duffy Adams and revel in piracy. (No child required.)

Bradley Greenwald, as ever, is magnificent as Pirate King Johnny Johne (forgive me for leaving the accent off that e), and Megan Fischer is fine as Enid Arabella (the part ellen_kushner was born to play), but the show was stolen in the best possible way, in my opinion, by Dot McDonald as Mhina.

But don't listen to me. Go, matey, go! It is playing until October 21.

Less than a month to go

until the Minnesota State Fair begins.

New foods include bacon ice cream, camel sliders, and poutine. How can this possibly be poutine's debut?

bald eagle!

I know a photograph would be nice to prove my words, but there is a bald eagle sitting in a tree less than a block from my house. A very calm bald eagle, ignoring those of us in the neighborhood who come out to gawk at him. I can hardly believe my eyes.
