Everything about the job, even the crap parts. That's because I've wanted to be an author since I was 11 years old and to be one is a dream come true. Same as my acting work - getting paid to do what you love, to share great passions with an audience, is simply wonderful.(less)

I was playing with my, then, three year old son in a hotel room in Flims, Switzerland. We were playing using a foldaway airport map and a few toys. I landed planes and drove baggage carts etc, doing all the normal stuff. He, wit ha low boredom threshold, picked up a dragon figure and landed it on the runway. 'Ooo,' I thought. 'Commercial dragon flights.' And from that little seed came Heart of Granite. A book with no commercial dragon flights :) but that's evolution of an idea for you. Cheers, James(less)

They pop into your head unbidden (inspired by something you’ve seen or heard whether consciously or not, most likely) and then refuse to budge until you’ve exami Read more of this blog post »

“[...] Am I boring you, Hirad?"
"What do you think?"
"Your ignorance is not my concern," said Denser.
"Gods falling, Denser, I've been dead ten years. There are gaps in my knowledge."
"There were plenty of those when you were alive."
"It was part of my charm," said Hirad.”
James Barclay, Ravensoul

“[...] Hirad, are you getting this?"
"Sort of."
"Gods falling, a sign of life!”
James Barclay, Shadowheart

“So, you can sort it?" Hirad's whisper was gruff. "Our elven friends are getting nervous about rapidly closing patrolmen and I'm getting old.”
James Barclay, Shadowheart
