This is true whether I'm in fiction or non fiction mode ... as I can only experience life, and describe it, through my own lens. So be as honest as you can, and don't forget the poetry is in the details. (That's where the fun is, as well!)

When I published my first book, Doin' the Box Step, I 'knew' it would be published -- I just never let go of that truth. And it worked (Random House was my first publisher.) Then when I published my first non-fiction title, How Much Joy Can You Stand?, I 'knew' I would get a big deal from a major publisher -- which I did. It took three years of persisting, 28 rejections, two major rewrites, learning how to be my own agent and negotiate contracts, as well as signing with a small press. All before the two book deal with Ballantine. Faith, my friend. Just try to hang in there and believe in yourself!(less)

One is a funny, edgy novel about a transman (female to male transgender) spy named Charley who is both deeply intuitive and fearless. Set in San Francisco, it's follows Charley's midlife crisis as he befriends a lesbian police sergeant and a society dominatrix ... also having crises of their own.

My other book is a memoir about the huge personal transformation I went through after my daughter, Teal, suddenly died in 2012. Not long after she died, Teal emerged as a presence I can only describe as angelic. She began to guide me on a very specific course of healing from the afterlife ... and I followed. (less)

Reading My Father’s Journal…

I woke up with a dream this morning. In it the house I was living in was being rebuilt—or at least a corner of it was. Long ago a huge tree had taken out an entire corner of the place.

And now I watched as builders methodically reconstructed it.

Clearly, I’m healing. My ‘house’ is literally being rebuilt by the wonderful process of writing my father’s biography. Since March I’ve been methodically co

“CHAPTER 16”
Suzanne Falter, Transformed: San Francisco

“What I didn’t know then is that letting go always, inevitably leads to something better. It simply has to, for this is the way of the Universe.”
Suzanne Falter, The Joy of Letting Go: Helpful Thoughts for Challenging Times

“We are afraid that our suffering will catch up with us. That we will lose our steely grip on control and be brought to our knees by circumstance. Or that we will lose everything, and so we will crumble to the ground and die.”
Suzanne Falter, The Joy of Letting Go: Helpful Thoughts for Challenging Times
