Kate Kerrigan is an author living and working in Ireland. Her novels are Recipes for a Perfect Marriage, The Miracle of Grace, Ellis Island, City of Hope, Land of Dreams and The Lost Garden.

Kate began her career as an editor and journalist, editing many of Britain’s most successful young women’s magazines before returning to her native Ireland in the 1990’s to edit Irish Tatler. She writes a weekly column in the Irish Mail about her life in Killala, County Mayo – and contributes regularly to RTE's radio's Sunday Miscellany.

Her novel, The Dress, published by Head of Zeus was shortlisted at the Irish Book Awards in 2015, and her new novel, It Was Only Ever You, was published in hardback edition, October 2016.

The Dress interweaves the dramatic story of Joy, the beautiful but tortured socialite and that of Lily - determined to uncover the truth and, if possible, to bring back to life the legendary dress itself.

I had never been inspired to w…more I got the idea for The Dress after talking to an old work associate from my distant days working on fashion magazines. I had never been inspired to write about the fashion business before but then this random conversation with this random man suddenly made me remember that, despite the idea I have about myself as being disinterested in fashion, actually I love clothes and I have an enormous respect for the art of couture. It was like they had been this idea lying dormant inside me and once it came out there was no stopping me. My next book will also be about the powerful role the clothes play in shaping and recording the emotional lives of women. (less)

Two Years

After I read this piece on RTE Radio's Sunday Miscellany, a lot of people e-mailed and asked for the transcript - so here it is.
