In terms of my academic background, I have always loved stories and books, though growing up I was more of a math and science geek. Later, I was fortunate enough to get a scholarship to a college that encouraged me studying both science and literature, so that got me used to the idea that I could be interested in both; there's usually at least one scientific element in my magical realism.
