In the heart of the midwest, we're surrounded by cornfields, soybean crops, and wheat galore. The prairie is tranquil. Dreamlike.

Yet I've always had a great desire to travel the world. The prairie is home, and much of the world can seem so alien in comparison. Being far from the ocean, I was awestruck the first time I took a plane overseas and when I walked along the shores of the Emerald Isles. It was so beautiful and refreshing. I've wanted to see more. I've wanted to see as much of the world as I can.

This desire to travel has often been coupled with two of my other greatest desires: to write and to be part of something greater than myself. I love to write, because even when I can't travel, a world can be created with just a pen and some

Neither of these have yet to be published, however.

I've often described writing fiction as being very close to reading. It's because it feels very similar. Once I've gotten past the initial barrier of coming up with an idea and getting started, it just flows. It's like reading, because it becomes automatic. I see the story unravel before me, and am as much surprised as a reader with the happenings on each page. Some of it is premeditated, but much of it is not. This is why I enjoy it. This is what interested me. I'm sad when I read a great book or series, and come to the end. With writing, it never has to end. I can always pick up a pen.

Thank you for your great question!(less)

The Order of the Sleepwalker

In the next few weeks we'll be seeing the release of The Order of the Sleepwalker.

This is a book that I originally wrote while a Junior in high school, at about 17-years old.

I had written books prior to this, but none at such a scale or length. This will be my largest published book to date.

Originally, upon finishing the book a year later, I had sought out literary agents to get it published. Afte Read more of this blog post »

Ok. Here goes nothing... I just wanted to let you know that you are a fantabulous, fantastical, AWSAZING person. I told you a secret only my closest friend knows about. You cheered me up when I was sick, you made me think that I would do fine, and most of all, you were an amazing friend. Even though I've barely known you for the better half of a week. There were some negatives of being your friend, *cough* no sleep *cough*, but other than that you were just pure magnificent. Thank you Ariah. Or Zack Attack. Or Mr. Barack should be honored to share your personality. Whatever you prefer. I don't know how many times I can say thanks, so just say it a million times and multiply that by ten. XD.

notyourfriend If you're getting this, know it was not an accident. I purposefully chose to post this here for you. It's to let you know that I think you are a great person. I may or may not talk to you much or know you well, but there's got to be something about you I like or something that happened that meant something to me. Some might not see this right away. Some might not see it all, but it doesn't matter. All that matters is that it's here. Some might laugh at this like it's a joke. Some might brush it off without a care. I don't expect a 'thank you' or something like that. I just needed to share this message. So thank you. Thank you for being you. I may not always seem thankful, and I deeply regret that, but I truly am thankful for each person that receives this post. It's not going to just anyone. It's going to you. So stay just the way you are and don't ever leave without at least a goodbye (Or never leave, I mean, that'd be cool too). - Caitlyn :) ❤

Elevetha Hey, Zack!! I've been doing wonderfully this summer. Lots of trips(as Eris mentioned below, one of them was visiting her and her family. I had an incredible time and am so glad that we got to meet and everything worked out as it did!) and hanging out with friends and family, as well as reading and general Internet tomfoolery in the in-between times:) How have you been?

Sorry for the late reply!!

message 30: by Marlene

Marlene Ocampo I am doing fabulously! In fact, some wonderful things are going to happen pretty soon. Elevetha is coming to visit me in two days, so we'll be meeting IRL for the first time. O_O And I'll be baptized on Tuesday with Ellie as my godmother. It sounds so weird and out-of-the-blue to say it on Goodreads, but we've gotten to know each other pretty well, and she's supported me so much through my conversion to Catholicism.

Aw yes. Stuffs happen in Book 2. :D The show got a lot better toward the second half of the season, once Korra got over her immaturity and started acting like an adult. They also really got into the spirit world, and you learn about the Avatar's past. So much good! And Book 3 has certain characters from ATLA returning. Very CERTAIN characters.

The movies for now, although I am requesting a bunch of comics from the library. I neeeeeeed MOOOOOAR. Speaking of the animated shows, how are they? Have you ever watched them?

message 29: by Marlene

Marlene Ocampo Hai Zechariah! :D Been a long time since I've talked with you. I hope you're doing well! Oh yes, I finished Book 2 of Korra. And now we have the third book arriving in... THREE DAYS! O_O Have you watched Book 2?

By the way... I may have caught the X-Men fever. ^_^

message 21: by johanna (jo) (last edited Oct 22, 2013 02:00AM)

johanna (jo) Hi!
By Darkness Hid is a Christian fantasy novel by an author my family has read some things by. It's a Narnia type -- typical fantasy set in a different world, but including God, only called by a different name. It's not a direct allegory, like The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, but God is in there.

I'm extremely fond of Christian fantasy :P

Planning, ugh. I'm no good at planning xDD I'm still painstakingly working at my novel's plot . . . I actually did some brainstorming last night and struck an idea that might be what I was looking for. Something that might tie in the Antagonist, the plot, Casper and Roy and their backstory all in one big tangle :D Which is what I like. But it's going to be tricky to write . . . I mean, if I make it too complicated, I might have it all straight in my head, but I have to make it clear for the reader, too. *musing*
Good luck with your Detective Games planning :)

You tried NaNo and it didn't work out? What do you think was the problem -- finding enough time, or the plot, or what? Sorry, you don't have to answer that :P I'm just curious . . . if I want to enter sometime I want to know what to avoid, I guess xD

Haha. Um. Well, I've been thinking, you know, a lot of you guys are going to be offline most of November. MJ, Ash, you, etc., because you'll all be busy with your stories. So, I don't know if I'll "officially" sign up for NaNo this year, but I might sort of use that time to write. Do my own unofficial NaNo :P I don't feel experienced enough to actually set goals and things yet, though. Maybe next year:)

Hah! Not necessarily ;) But it's a nice thought, thank you :) You guys are all so nice xD

Glad to hear it! Hope you enjoy :)

See ya later!

-Jo

johanna (jo) I'm glad to hear that :)
I'm well! Thanks! I think I'm finally shaking this cold off, which is great; I accomplished a moderate amount of schoolwork today, horse riding yesterday was awesome and I'm really looking forward to next week, and the book I'm reading is promising to be fantastic. =)
Oh, cool! Are you writing the next Detective Games instalment for NaNo, or something new? Have you done NaNo before? (Perhaps I should try it someday in the future. I have friends that do, online and off)
Not today :) I hope to get some plotting/brainstorming/serious thinking in this week. I keep looking back and seeing how fast time has gone and how much time I wasted *sigh* Now that schoolwork has started again, I should be more productive. :P Less Goodreads, more writing, huh?
What're you reading at the moment? :)

johanna (jo) We don't seem to have talked for a while, Zack :)
That's partly my fault, I think; I utterly forgot about your comment on my profile. Ugh. Sorry about that.
Anyway, how's things going? Done much writing lately? And I forgot to ask; did your ear heal up nicely? xD

-J

MJ Woody Yes, indeed! 'Soufflé girl' is what the Doctor calls Clara (from Doctor Who) because she loves to make soufflés. I've just recently gone on a craze [for soufflés] myself and so I shall refer to myself as soufflé girl, because nobody else will. xD

message 17: by Marlene

Marlene Ocampo That would be great! Especially since this recent episode has me going: O_O WHAT IS HAPPENING?! Can't wait to hear what you think.

message 16: by Marlene

Marlene Ocampo Oh yes, I've been keeping up with all the episodes every week! ^_^ I don't have cable television, but I keep up brilliantly through Nick's website. They post each episode the day after they come out on television, and this suits me marvelously. So far I've been really liking the season, although I don't know why Korra is being written so crudely all of a sudden. Seriously, she's been a bit of a jerk. But hey, we're only five episodes or so in, so there's time for change.

Marlene Ocampo Thanks, Zechariah. :) Earthbenders look up to the best!

message 7: by MJ

MJ Woody Yes, the soreness is very worth it!! I was thrilled to death to be in that barn, during those two days, and have to find my size boots and helmet, and the right saddle, bridle, and girth for the horse that I would be riding, as well as grooming tools. To smell those horses! Yes! I loved it so much. :)

Awww!! Thank you! I do appreciate the prayers. :)

I do have an excerpt ready. I'll send it to you later on today, in say about 6-7 hours, to be sure. It's really short, and I'm really nervous. :P

message 6: by MJ

MJ Woody Yes. I LOVE HORSES!! That's typical for girls though, I guess. :P I've wanted to learn to ride for forever, but there aren't any places to do that much where I live. :( I did get to take a 2 day class once when I stayed with my grandparents. Such fun!! My rear was really sore for another 2 days after, though. :P

Anyway, enough about the ponies (haha), that you SO much for your encouragement. I don't know what I would do without Ash, and Abby, and you--my 'supporters'. Seriously. :) I'm thinking about PMing an excerpt to you, once I come up with one that's half-decent. :P

Praying. Ah, yes. I have prayed a bit that I'll get my story right--but I really should get down on my knees and just tell Him how I want to do this for His Glory, and just ask for His hand to be upon it--you know what I mean. :P

You know what's so amazing about his whole thing?? (This may be long, bear with me here) Earlier this year, for several months, I struggled with finding my 'talent'. I wasn't in a position where I could do sports, and I really didn't have a passion for sports anyway. I could draw ok, but I didn't want to throw myself into sketching and stuff, and I'm not very musical--so I didn't think I could play an instrument, I'd already quit on piano and I didn't want my parents wasting money for lessons for me to try to learn to play something else that I would probably be horrible at. I wanted to do something. I wanted a hobby--something I could really throw myself into, something I loved doing--besides fangirling and reading. So I asked the LORD to just show me, in His time, what talent He had given me. Because I hoped that He had given me one. I had always been good at writing letters, but I'd shoved aside the thought, I didn't put together two and two together--the thing I had for fantasty + my fairly good skill at writing letters. And then BAM--I met Ashley on Pinterest, and we got to know each other. She told me that she wrote medieval stories. I remember thinking that was SO FREAKING COOl--I'd love to do something like that. I was wary at first, though, I'd tried to write when I was younger--only a couple of stories--but they were really stupid, so I figured I couldn't do it and moved on. But little by little, I began to see that maybe, just maybe, this was my talent. I started to get really interested in writing and the idea of crafting another world, a story of my own. And then an idea hit me one night that I thought was cool, and I went for it. And so, here I am now. I half believe, half doubt that this may be the talent that He has given me. We shall see!! In the meantime, ya'll all are inspiring and encouraging me, and I REALLY appreciate that. This is turning out to be an awesome thing!! :D

message 5: by MJ

MJ Woody Yeah. I'll let you know how I like them. :)

Well, I actually don't do photography--I just think it's really cool. One of my interests. Maybe someday I'll try it out--I'd like to now, but I've my writing to focus on.

message 4: by johanna (jo) (last edited Aug 31, 2013 10:51PM)

johanna (jo) :) We talked a bit on the 1234...0 thread, remember.
I've been great, thanks! And yourself?

Except for the Red-Headed League that I re-watched the other day, I haven't:) Have you checked out any of those DVDs yet? :D Don't forget to tell me what you think ^_^

Sir Rowan is good - It's the last in a series by a Christian author, set in a Medieval-Fantasy world. Each book focuses on a certain vice or virtue (I believe this one is pride), and there's a study guide at the back. I'm quite fond of them:) This one isn't the best in the series, (that would be Sir Dalton, hmm . . .) but I like it so far.

There's no such thing as too many questions ^_^ What have you been up to? Been reading anything interesting lately?

message 3: by MJ (last edited Aug 31, 2013 01:07PM)

MJ Woody Hi! No problem. :) If you don't mind me saying so, I think you're a really cool guy. :)

In answer to your question, I actually haven't read that many Christian books--I mean to though. One that I really want to read is Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis. Hopefully, I'll read it sometime soon. Also Do Hard Things by Alex Harris.

I liked Eragon. I didn't go crazy or flip out over it like Ashley, but I did like it. :P The story was very cool, the whole Dragon Riders thing and all of that. I liked the characters as well. Saphira was really cool! :D I will let you know when I read the rest of the series. :) I'm kind of wary though, because some people say the series was too long and there were too many side stories that weren't important. But I shall read them and form my own opinion. ;)

Marlene Ocampo I look forward to it, and I hope we can also talk writing, too! It was really good to meet you. *Team Avatar high five*
