“I’d waited for this opportunity with Claudia for a long time—ever since elementary school when I tried to impress her on the monkey bars and woo her with my crayon drawings. But I couldn’t have been with her any sooner. You can’t expect someone to love a shadow.”

“The best books come from someplace deep inside.... Become emotionally involved. If you don't care about your characters, your readers won't either.”

“If you love what you do and are willing to do what it takes, it's within your reach. And it'll be worth every minute you spend alone at night, thinking and thinking about what it is you want to design or build. It'll be worth it, I promise.”

“Everybody talks about wanting to change things and help and fix, but ultimately all you can do is fix yourself. And that's a lot. Because if you can fix yourself, it has a ripple effect.”
