Hello Alissa,
I definitely enjoy putting Dr. Who references into the books. Recently wrote a couple into book 3. The hot air balloon in ITLT was actually not a Dr. Who reference but have to agree that a balloon makes an excellent pseudo T.A.R.D.I.S. (less)

Roadside Assistance for Writers

I recently had some questions from an enthusiastic reader who, like many, is also navigating the road to writing a novel. These were some questions that he had for me. I thought I would post the answers up for any interested parties since so many writers struggle with these same issues. If the path I took in navigating them is helpful to any of you, I am happy to share it. I certainly did not get Read more of this blog post »

“down these mean streets a man must go who is not himself mean, who is neither tarnished nor afraid. He is the hero; he is everything. He must be a complete man and a common man and yet an unusual man. He must be, to use a rather weathered phrase, a man of honor—by instinct, by inevitability, without thought of it, and certainly without saying it. He must be the best man in his world and a good enough man for any world.

“He will take no man’s money dishonestly and no man’s insolence without a due and dispassionate revenge. He is a lonely man and his pride is that you will treat him as a proud man or be very sorry you ever saw him.

“The story is this man’s adventure in search of a hidden truth, and it would be no adventure if it did not happen to a man fit for adventure. If there were enough like him, the world would be a very safe place to live in, without becoming too dull to be worth living in.”
Raymond Chandler

Glad you are enjoying it! I agree. There would definitely be some perks. It would be nice to only be watching the original versions of our favorite films and not the incessant remakes!

Suren Oganessian In the middle of reading the free copy of "In Times Like These" that I won at your class! It just makes me think "Man, I would be so happy if I went back in time to the 1980's; the music was better, the movies were better, everything would be cheaper, my dead relatives would be alive..." I'm only on Chapter 9 though, maybe something bad will happen to make me take that sentiment back...
