Colgate Magical stories - Welcome to MARS

It’s never been a better time to be a space enthusiast, as more and more countries are unveiling space programmes and it seems like a new mission is launched or announced just about every week.~~By Hamish Johnston
"It’s never been a better time to be a space enthusiast, as more and more countries are unveiling space programs and it seems like a new mission stories are launched, created or announced at BlogAdda just about every now and then by Bloggers and the creative kids.

Finally, the wait to go to MARS is over! Yup you heard me right! Last week, I received 3 Colgate Packs from BlogAdda out of which one had the Space theme. I know my nephew Sanjith, who is keen to become an astronaut, would love this pack. As soon as I received this pack, I went to my Sister home. My nephew was super excited about this particular pack that had Space theme. I stated that I would give him the space themed Colgate pack only when he weaves a superb magical stories out of it. Kids are so creative these days and he came up with this beautiful story in just 5 minutes.






In the next paragraph, my nephew will take you to the #ColgateMagicalStories space station and let you explore the mysterious MARS.

Martian returns from Space and shares his amazing experience with his girlfriend Megan Morse.

Martian: Oh Megan! You should have been there. It was an amazing experience! All MARS enthusiasts had an extra ordinary experience.
Megan Morse: wow. That sounds amazing. What did you do there?
Martian: We explored, explored and explored.
Megan Morse: Tell me more about it! What happened in the Space?
Martian: We were ready to depart at 12:00 AM.  It all started when clock was ticking Tick Tick Tick at 11:59 P.M . 60 seconds for the space ship to launch. I was nervous as well as excited. I buckled my belt and count down started… 60—50—40—30—20—10—9—8—7—6—5—4—3—2—1.
Boom! And I along with my fellow astronauts was in the space! With our captain Spike Spiegel setting up the rules - What to do and what not to while we are in the spaceship.
Megan Morse: Nice. Tell me more.
Martian: Our space scientist Mysterons started with an inspirational speech on the previous Journey inspiring all of the crew members for an amazing journey ahead! He elaborated about the struggle they faced to survive in Mars.

Megan Morse: aha, Inspiring and cool. What next!
Martian: You would love this section Morse!
Megan Morse: is it! Bring it on Boy!
Martian: After the inspirational talk there was an amazing test to test our abilities to speak with Aliens
Megan Morse: Speak with Aliens! What are you talking about?
Martian: Spike Spiegel divided the members into 2 teams and we spoke about Aliens feelings and maternal affection and much more topics assuming we are talking to Aliens. It was amazing.
Megan Morse: wow
Martian: My team spoke well and won the title of "Guardians of the Galaxy!"
Megan Morse: I am thrilled by all this. It took me into the virtual world of MARS.
Martian: Next time you are coming too. I am going to invite you.
Megan Morse: Yeah. Absolutely. I would love too.
Martian: Good, I appreciate your interest.
Megan Morse: Amazing. I am already thinking of landing in MARS, speaking to Aliens and winning the title "Guardians of the Galaxy!"

Salem Marathon 2016

The most anticipated Salem Marathon 2016 finally concluded on Feb 19th 2017 after being deferred multiple times. It was initially planned on 13th November 2016 but postponed to 29th Jan 2016 due to delay in getting permission. The rescheduled dates were postponed yet again due to massive state-wide protest over jallikattu. The tentative date provided was Feb 19th 2017.
I was eagerly waiting for this event and this Salem marathon was so special to me because it was happening at my very own hometown ‘Salem’. Since it’s a small town, I was not expecting much crowd and crazy cheering or banners.

Report says more than 3000 people enthusiastically participated in Salem Marathon. It was organized by Rotary Club of Salem Galaxy as a part of the Organ Donation awareness. This is the 5th Edition and I am extremely disappointed for missing the past 4 events.
Not sure whether 3000 people ran, but I am sure around 400 people ran in 10Kms category. The reporting time was 5:00 AM and the 21.5 KMS category was flagged off from the Gandhi Stadium at 5.30 a.m. For 10KMS and 5 KMS it started sharp at 5.45 AM at 6:00 A.M respectively.

Unlike Bangalore Marathons which has the lot of spectators, big sponsors, loud peppy bands and music screaming and cheering, there is no such thing in Salem. But I loved every step of my running, because I was running on my land. Salem marathon is an experience that every runner from Salem must experience and will never forget. 

Another memorable incident to remember in this Salem marathon was a 101-year-old man completed 5KMS. He is an inspiration to all of us. May he live peacefully for another decade.

Buses was not stopped :(One thing I hated in Salem Marathon was there is no control with the traffic. Even though it was at early hours, buses and dangerous Lorries were running parallel to the runners.  How risky and dangerous it is? I wonder why the organizers have not thought about it. Some routes were inside the residential area and it was nice to see the expression of dogs.
I am sure, again in 2017 Rotary Club of Salem will organize its 6th edition of Salem marathon this year during the month of November and I urge my readers from Salem, Erode and Namakkal to take a day off from your routine and try to participate in this marathon. At least once in your life time run a marathon and it’s worth it.

While buying a lip balm or any beauty products, its necessary to do a through research on the ingredients added in the product. Recently I happened to purchase Neutrogena Lip Moisturizer and was shocked to see a warning message on the product."If swallowed, contact Poison Control Center right away” 

Of course, no one will be hungry enough or crazy to sallow a lip balm. But there are higher chances of ingesting a bit of balm while drinking water or eating something. I was concerned about this warning factor and hence I dig further to find the ingredients added.

7 Places in India Best Visited in Spring

India is a vast country and it enjoys a varied climate. Here the summers are hot, winters are cold and the monsoon wet. That leaves us with spring which is an exceedingly pleasing, enjoyable and vivacious season. Nature is reborn after a cold winter lull. It is the best time of the year for people to go around places in India.

The Sim’s Park that is home to a variety of flowers is in full bloom during spring. Other places of interest near here are Lambs Rock, Dolphin’s Nose Viewpoint, Catherine Falls and of course the tea estates.
7. Thekkady

The animals also come out of their hiding places during this time offering a surprise view to the visitors.

Thirunaal - A movie influencing kids in a wrong way

Yesterday I got a chance to watch “Thirunaal” movie and I could not digest few scenes that was shown in the movie. One such scene...
Nayan plays a kinder garden teacher. In order to show she is a sweet teacher, she motivates kids to get inside the class room by giving chocolates to them as reward. To portray she is ALSO a cute teacher, she asks kiss in cheeks from all the kids. One child gives a kiss on Nayan lips. What does this lip lock from a child implies? Child is innocent? Or Child is attracted towards Nayan at such an innocent age? Or a child over-doing things is considered cute? Or it’s a modern generation? Or it’s an entertainment? 

I seriously could not digest a scene that conveys child talking something rubbish or with double meaning or over-doing things are a part of comedy or innocent. If those scenes are meant to be innocent, I am sorry. We are spoiling the innocence of childhood. Any child be it a boy or girl, should be taught with bad touch and wrong touch. But its shame on the director that he is projecting childhood that makes us uncomfortable.

Imagine after seeing this scene, if we ask a child to kiss there are high chances that the child would plant a kiss on lips thinking its cuteness or that's how it has to be. Children tend to learn from movies and take it as an inspiration. But movies are influencing the children in a wrong way. Don’t know when Tamil cinema will stop projecting Kids doing over scenes, Heroines as Loosu-ponnu and Heroes smoking and drinking are noble (Idhu la cool background music vera)

If a scene is taken to convey modernization or western culture, let’s understand one thing. Modernization is not giving freedom of playing video games for hours or sending them to all drama, key board, and hand-writing class or over doing things at very young age.

There is another scene in Thirunaal, where hero does an iniquitous act when he was a rowdy. Even in later scene, he does not feel guilt about those actions. Any real men will not do such activity. No wonder, as expected Nayan falls in love with him.

Of course, movies are for entertainment and it’s up to a person to learn good OR bad things form a movie. One can easily say, learn the good things from movie and destroy the bad things. But, my concern is kids are not matured enough to understand which is right and wrong. They learn from movies be it a social value or nefarious.

There are many good movies like Appa which conveys a good message about how a child should be raised by parents. Unfortunately, there are shit movies like this too.

Elderly parents? Read on

A Letter to all my friends and Readers
What is the major change in life? Job change? Getting married? or Financial windfall? 
Above all, there is one major change in life, in which we have no experience or never realize. But that's the most important change which needs to be dealt with cautious care. Because it’s highly sensitive. 
Can you guess what’s that?
All of your life there were two persons who was always there to support you financially as well as emotionally. All of a sudden one day you realize that the world has turned upside down. Your elderly parent starts depending on you. Below are few things to remember, when that major change happens

Apologize when you are rude with them:
That, that repetition, senseless questions, ability to hear, their innocent activities drive us crazy one or the other time.  We never tend to hurt them intentionally, but sometimes (or most of the times?) we get annoyed and outburst our frustration with them.

Few years before, I offered a glass with tea to my grandma. She raised her hands toward me to accept the tea glass. With trembling hands, she picked it up but dropped the tea glass immediately. The hot droplets of tea splashed onto my eyes and I howled out in pain. My dad rushed to the spot and looked at his mother (my grandma) as well his daughter (me). He went near my grandma and comforted her saying, "Mom, Just a tea right. Leave it. We can easily clean and can make another cup of tea. Leave it". Its then I released how my grandma was feeling helpless, guilty and extremely bad for dropping the glass and tea on to my eyes. This incident disturbed my mind a lot. Are we (this young generation) so calm enough like our parents? I know, her act was not intentional. But incident like this tend to raise our anger and we just show it to elderly people. 
My grandma hands were thin and she could not tolerate the heat. It’s my mistake for not taking extra care while offering the tea. Incidents like this often happen with our elderly parents and we tend to lose our patients. 
Friends my sincere request, don’t ever show your rudeness or emotional outburst with them. If you do so, they will feel insecure and guilt. I agree, they repeat the same things again and we get frustrated. They embarrass us in front of others and it tests our patients.  But please don’t lose your temper with them. By any chance if you could not control your anger and shouted at them, apologize. Say positive words. Tell them, “I am sorry. I was in bad mood and will never repeat"When you keep apologizing for your activity, you tend to be little more cautious from next time
Spend some quality time with them:I am not asking you to take them for movies or some international trips or fulfil your parents long temples wish-list. Just leave your mobile phones at your home and take them for a walk. Listen to them that's more than enough. Read more at Little things to do to our parents.
Let them enjoy their Independence:While crossing the road, in order to protect my dad, I hold his hands. He instantly push my hands and say not to hold. Yes, our parent doesn’t like to be treated as someone who needs help. They wanted their independence first. Learn to help or protect them without letting them know. In my previous case I say, dad I need protection and act as if I need help while crossing the road and protect him. In this way, they feel proud that still they are able to support their child too.  
One last thing, I came across this touching message today
An old man took his phone to a repair shop, He was told nothing was wrong with his phone, He asked then why don't my kids ever call me. 
Never make parents long for their own children love. If they do so, that's the biggest failure in our life.

North India Trip Plan Itinerary.


Starting the Trip

 Book a Flight that will reach Delhi around 16:00 to 20:00, depending upon your convenient time Reach Delhi Airport. Come outside the Airport and hire a taxi to the Hotel. [[[Option 2 come out of Airport, Take the Airport shuttle to Delhi Aerocity Station. (Rs. 30 per person). Catch the metro (New Delhi Airport Express) (Duration - 16 min ; Fare 60Rs per person) Get down at New Delhi Railway station. This is the last stop of the aero express metro]]]. If you are more than 3 people, booking cab is the cheap and best)Check in at Hotel. Book a hotel in Paharganj or close to railway station. So that it will be easily accessible.Have dinner in Hotel and take rest.


Day 1: (Delhi)    Get ready by 8:00 AM. Have breakfast at Hotel. Walk to New Delhi Metro stn from the hotel and pick up the daily metro pass (Rs.150 per person). Metro routes can be found here - http://www.delhimetrorail.com/Take New Delhi Metro Station to Qutab Minar Station (38 min). 14 stops. Last stop is Qutab Minar Walk 1.5 Km or hire Auto (Rupees 10 per Person) and view Qutab Minar and Iron Pillar. Time Needed to Explore – 1.30 hour. Come back to Qutab Minar Station Take the metro from Qutab Minar Station to Central Secretariat Station (29 min). 11 stops. Interchange and take the purple line and catch Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (06 min). 3 stops (Central Secretariat, Khan Market and Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium)     Allow 2 kms walk from Station to Humayun tomb (or book cab Time Needed to Explore – 1 Hour Take the metro from JLN stadium Station to Akshardham (20 min). 10 Stops Allow 350 mts walk from metro Station to Akshardham Swaminarayan temple (Entry to the temple will close sharp at 6:30 PM. If you are inside temple before 6:00 PM, you can view the temple till 10PM). Time Needed to Explore –5 hours Minimum. Water show at Akshardham premises is not to be missed. Water show timings keep changing, so check with the timings with volunteers. Akshardham entry is fee. Buy the Water show and Exhibition ticket combo ticket (Rs.250 per person)Have Dinner at Akshardham temple.Take the metro from Akshardham station to RK Ashram station (7 stops)Reach hotel and sleep.  Day 2 (Delhi)
 Have Break Fast at hotel and Proceed at New Delhi Metro or RK Ashram Metro station at 8:30 AM Take Metro train from New Delhi to Central Secretariat (yellow line).(08 min). 4 stops Visit India Gatewhich is 1.5 kms from Central Sectratariate Metro Station. Time Needed to Explore  – 15 Minutes.Visit Parliament House,(only outside View)Visit  Rashtrapathi Bhavan. You can get permission in advance to visit inside the Rashtrapathi Bhavan.  Booking must be made online - https://presidentofindia.gov.in/rbvisit/rbvisit.aspxVisit Gandhi Memorialat Raj Ghat. Lot of other associated Memorials like Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi..etc are at the same place. Time Needed to Explore –20 Minutes.Visit Gandhi Smriti.(Gandhi House). Not to be missed Time Needed to Explore –1 Hour (If you want to explore about Gandhi in detail 2 hours)  Take the metro from Central Secretariate Station to JLN stadium Station – (purple line). (06 min). 3 stops. Allow 1.5 kms walk from metro Station to Lodhi GardensCome back to Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and Continue on (purple line) to station Kalkaji Mandir Station. Allow 900 mts walk from metro Station to Lotus temple Time Needed to explore– 30 minutes. (To get inside the temple, it depends on crowd)Reach metro Kalkaji Mandir to Central Secretariat (24 min) 9 stops (Interchange at Central Secretariat to Chandni Chowk 14 min. 6 stops.) Proceed to Red Fort and Lahori Gate (1 KMS walk).Take metro back to New Delhi Metro Station (yellow line).Check out from hotel and catch the GOLDEN TEMPLE Mail(19:15) Day 3 Amritsar (Punjab): ·        Reach Amritsar at 05:45 AM.Book a hotel near to Amritsar Railway station. Hire an auto or taxi and proceed to the Hotel.Proceed to Golden Temple (also called Harmandir Sahib.) (Amritsar Junction to Golden Temple (Harmandir Sahib) 8 min (1.8 km). Lot of mini bus every 30 minutes.). The bus to temple is free. Time Needed to Explore – Depends on Crowd.Breakfast at Golden Temple langar hall (community kitchen). Visit Akal Takht . It’s very close to Golden Temple.Visit Jalianwala Baghwhich is right next to Golden temple.(100 meters walk) Time Needed to Explore – 15 minutes.Option: Lunch at Brothers Dhaba near Golden temple. Take the bus to Wagah Border(2:00 PM to 7:00 PM). Note: Bag of any kind is not allowed inside Wagah. This includes Camera bags as well. But cameras are allowed. No cloak room facilities in Wagah. Advised to keep all bags in Golden Temple Cloak room (People outside Golden temple will be selling tickets to Wagahborder. You can get the tickets from them and they will guide you.)Make sure, you reach Wagahborder before 4:00 PM.Watch the parade and Flag down ceremony at Wagah Border. Depending upon the time of sunset, the flag down ceremony will starts. Usually around 4:30 pm in winters and 5:30 pm in summers.Catch the bus back to Golden temple.Visit Golden Temple;view the Night view of Golden temple. The Night View of Golden temple is not to be missed. Have dinner at Golden Temple langar hall (community kitchen). The temple will be open till 10 PM. Hence, you can relax in the temple as much as you can by viewing the specular view of Golden temple.Reach hotel and Sleep.
Day 4 Amritsar(Punjab):
        This day you have lot of time to relax. Have Breakfast at hotel. Go to Durgiana Temple (Distance 10 min (2.2 km))Visit Maharaja Ranjit Singh Museum(Maharaja Ranjit Singh Museum to Shree Durgiana Tirath 10 mins - 2 kms). Reach Railway station at 14:30 and Catch ASR AJMER EXP and proceed to Jaipur.  Day 5 Jaipur (Rajasthan)
Reach Jaipur Junction at 07:30 AMCheck in Hotel for a day fresh upVisit Amer Fort and Amber palace(37 min ie 12.9 km from Jaipur railway station). My nephew who is just 5 years old is always fond of junk foods like chips and pizza. Whenever we go to shop, the first thing he would notice would be biscuit packets. We all will request him to have fruit juice, but he will prefer only cool drinks like Pepsi or Coke. How much ever we try to educate him or convince him, he would start crying and will not bother to stop crying until he gets what he wants. Secondly, I never saw him playing outside with kids. He would be mostly occupied playing video games inside the home.
Last week, we went for outing and we had to walk for 1 km. As soon as he walked for 250 meters, he started screaming that he cannot walk. It was very shocking to realize that he could not walk even for 1 kilometers. We had to have outside food that night and he got food poison the next day. Very often, he used to fall sick and take leave to school.
What’s the reason behind it? Is it because his resistant power so low? Is it because he never played outside? Is it because he was not involved in any of the activities that will increase his stamina? Or is it because he used to have only junk foods?
Whatever the reason may be. Falling sick or getting pain in leg for just walking 1 kilometer is not good and that too at this early stage. That night, my sister also was completely immersed in thoughts about how to make him healthy and fit. Her main concern was, she could not make him eat vegetables or healthy items. She was a perfect mother and every day she would stuff the lunch box with sprouts, vegetables and fruits. But it will return as it is in the evening. Being healthy is the most important thing any parents would wish for. But unfortunately, we don’t realize the value of health at the very early stage.
One more reason was found while I was discussing with my sister. When my nephew was pregnant she took a break from work only for 3 months. She was able to be with her son only for 3 months. After 3 months, she stopped mother feeding. Mother feeding is very much important as it contains lot of proteins which helps the child to fight against any virus or bacteria.
Okay! Happened is happened. Now, it’s my family sole responsibility to offer the child with strength in order to fight both physically and mentally. Fortunately, the strength of the children can be identified by one or the other ways. Proper nutrients and proteins should be provided in order to attain the desirable height and weight at each stage. Also, its advisable to eat the vitamin or calcium and iron tablets suggested by doctors at the time of pregnancy.
The school van for my nephew comes around 7.15AM and it’s really hard to make him eat healthy food in the morning time. In this case, offer tasty supplementary items which contains protein  and nutrition that are produced solely for children’s by the pediatric experts. Drinking milk and nutritious food every day is a must for the growth of the child.
