Welcome to my new blog!
Hi. I'm Debra Daugherty, author of Calamity Cat, picture book for ages 4-8, publisher MeeGenius, ISBN 9781625432414.
When I tell my friends I wrote a picture book about a cat, they ask, "Why a cat? Why not a dog?"
They find it strange because I have no cat, only two dogs, Honey and CeCe. I love my dogs and would be lost without them, but I also like kittens and cats. As a child on the farm there were plenty of barn kittens. My brothers and I couldn't bring them in the house, but we loved playing with them outside.
This is how Calamity Cat came to be written: It was February, picture book month, and a member of my writers group mentioned writing a picture book a day. I accepted the challenge and that is what I did, I wrote 28 picture books in one month. Calamity Cat was written on Day 18. After revisions, I sent it to MeeGenius, an online e-book publisher. This was in March, 2013. By April 30th, I had a signed contract and Calamity Cat was released on December 2, 2013. It's been an exciting year!
Lucy Mara was chosen by MeeGenius to be the illustrator and I think she did an exceptional job. There is energy to her art and I especially love the illustration she did of Calamity getting a bath. YEOW!
I would love hearing from my young readers. Do you have a cat? Does it make messes, too? You can e-mail me at: ddaugherty329@gmail.com.
Here are links to my website:

I write about the ups and downs of finding publishers and agents for manuscripts and I also write about my stories. There is a section titled Kid's Korner where I write for my young readers. If you like snicker doodle cookies, there is a recipe for them on this page.
This link takes one to the MeeGenius website and my book: http://www.meegenius.com/readers/1/04....
Calamity Cat is available for $1.99. MeeGenius also offers bundles of books at a special rate, and you can buy a subscription, paying so much a month to use the MeeGenius library of over 700 books. Check it out at www.meegenius.com
Thanks for dropping in for my first chit chat.

Chit Chat with author Debra Daugherty
New Year's come and gone and soon it will be Valentine's Day.
I am getting tired of this cold blast of artic air that lingers. Spring cannot
come soon enough for me.
Being cooped up in the house because of the cold, snow and ice has one advantage. I can curl up with a good book and sip on hot cocoa.
I am hoping young children are now finding my book, Calamity Cat, on the MeeGenius website and reading it. There were a few glitches when it first came out, but they are gone now, and Calamity Cat can be found in four of the MeeGenius Categories: Animals, Ages 3-5, MeeGenius Originals and Family.
Once you've had a chance to read Calamity Cat, I would greatly appreciate it if you, along with your parents, would go to goodreads.com and give a review/rating.
I don't have a cat, but my dogs, Honey and CeCe, keep me company. They don't like this cold weather either.
My brother has taken in a cat, or I should say a cat has decided to live in my brother's garage. It's a black cat with white paws and is very friendly. My brother feeds it and gives it milk, and it has warm blankets to curl up in to sleep. I don't think my brother's named his cat yet. I think Calamity would be a great name for it, don't you?
I hope everyone is staying warm. Read to pass the time and Spring will soon be here.
If you'd like to look up Calamity Cat, go to www.MeeGenius.com, or http://www.meegenius.com/readers/1/04...
I also have a blog website at: www.writing-for-children.webnode.com
