Born in London, Louisa Treger began her career as a classical violinist. She studied at the Royal College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music, and worked as a freelance orchestral player and teacher.

Louisa subsequently turned to literature, gaining a First Class degree and a PhD in English at University College London, where she focused on early twentieth century women’s writing.

Married with three children, she lives in London.

I discovered her completely by accident, through a review Virginia Woolf wrote about one of Dorothy’s books. This was the beginning of a lifelong fascination with Dorothy. It is fiction after all, and there's a note to the reader at the front of the book explaining that I have done this, especially with the chronologies.

Nellie father isn't any man - he is her father. She wasn't seeking the approval of a man for inspiration. She was looking up to a parent. Also, her mother didn't encourage her to do these worldly things. But her mother inspired her to be a storyteller so the reader can be told that Nellie's passion to write was inspired by both her parents.
