Getting praised by someone you look upto…

It’s with great pride and with a struggle to stay grounded, that I read these words of praise showered upon my book ‘Rhythm of Remembrance’.

I remember the first time I picked up Shubhangi Swarup’s lyrically luminous book ‘Latitudes of Longing’, I was in awe of the title, for the way it pairs a geographical term with an emotional one. Later as I absorbed…

…each word,

each phrase,

each sentence,

through page after glorious page,

I realised the depth of not just her talent but also her vision which reflects in her work. As Latitudes of Longing continues its victorious march across boundaries of awards and barriers of languages, somehow it brings me a sense of contentment as if it were my own victory.

Today when Shubhangi Swarup honours my work with her words, it’s difficult to not feel moved. I admit that today I feel proud, but ‘Rhythm of Remembrance’ a book in it’s own entity, is definitely more proud than me. Thank you, Shubhangi Swarup for your generous praise of my work.

Story behind the book cover of ‘Rhythm of Remembrance’:

[image error][image error]Is it possible for a stranger to touch you so deeply while just passing by?

I clicked this photograph during our trek to Stok village in Ladakh. This trip gave me a lot of time to reflect on my emotional landscape at that time. When I saw this old woman walking with a basket on her back, I somehow couldn’t help thinking about the life she must have led in these mountains, which must have been home to her happiness, sadness, ecstasies and griefs. Restless thoughts started rising, as my mind wandered thinking about this stranger, wondering about her childhood, her youth, her family. Had she lived all her life here in this small village where I had just come for a trek?

I had no way of understanding people who lived here, just a helpless desire to do so, which was of no use if it was not backed with any productive action. I wrongly thought this place and its people will soon slip out of my memory. A suffocating feeling of each of us being completely isolated from each other started to crawl upon me, the kind of feeling that makes us feel tiny and insignificant in this vast universe, with no way for us to get to know people in little corners of the world, to understand their lives, to empathize with them… All this started feeling so impossible… I had to shake myself out of that feeling as it had started making me feel increasingly helpless. However, this photograph stayed with me and I knew in an instance, which photograph to select when I was choosing the cover of my second book.

Kode – Where beauty is not just skin deep

When gorgeous looks are accompanied with excellent taste, you hardly are left with anything to complain about. Well I am talking about food… And Kode delivers to match up with our expectations… And I must tell you, our expectations were pretty high when we planned a dinner at Kode…

You walk in to be greeted by a huge bar, sitting there, glistening as if sprinkled with star dust. The ambience of Kode has a lot going for it… It’s as romantic as it is appropriate for a get together or for a family dinner as long as you are in company of individuals who are able to appreciate both the visual as well as sensory art in their food…

Wet Dreams:

Bourbon based Drink: 10 / 10 for taste (gingery goodness), though it wasnt a show-stopper in terms of presentation. But some good things come in subtle outfits…
