Amy Tanner writes because she believes--with wholehearted irrationality--that her words have the power to become real. To make dreams come true. In one way or another. And no, there's no scientific evidence behind it, although some mighty strange coincidences have traipsed across her path. She has good reason to believe that she actually dated the male protagonist of her first novel, even though he wasn't Polish. But he was rather mad. In any case, it is her passionate desire for her particular brand of quirky yet practical optimism to penetrate every dusty, magnificent corner of the globe. And then some.

Fall in love with what you're doing, and that love will carry you through the hard parts, when you feel like the skin is slowly being peeled from your body. If you trust the goodness that is in you and allow it to express itself in the way that is singular and particular to you, your life will become a thing of beauty, and your friends will love you even more, and you will rock.(less)

Big Magic = Big Realization

Big Magic made me weep this morning. A book about creativity that I was afraid to read, and now I’m afraid to finish it. I’ve never thought about inspiration & ideas as having an expiration date. Elizabeth Gilbert illustrates what happened to her when she put off working on an enticing new project for too long—it went and found someone else.
It’s been two years since I finished my first novel, and Read more of this blog post »
