Reece has been writing since she was in elementary school. She has come a long way since those thinly veiled imitations of Tolkien masterpieces. Thanks to NaNoWriMo, Reece finished her debut YA paranormal romance, The Stern and Wild Ones (available on amazon). She is currently working on the sequel, due out in the fall of 2014. When she isn't writing, she's a high school English teacher. Cliche, yes, but what can you do? ...more

Well, I really don't think I'm super qualified to answer this, since I'm such a new writer myself, but I am happy to share what I am learning. As a new indie author, I'm having a blast, but the learning curve is steep. I'm navigating the murky waters of twitter, Facebook, goodreads, pinterest, etc., mainly just to get my name out there. I am actively trying to get people to review my book, as well. The two main avenues I am pursuing right now are twitter and goodreads, where I'm just trying to build relationships.

Probably the best advice I have for new writers is to concentrate on your writing more than promoting your work. Don't ignore promotion, but spend the majority of your time writing and polishing, making sure that once people know who you are, there is some great stuff for them to read and be fans of.

Things to watch out for--hmmm. Probably spending too much money on promotion, buying twitter followers, etc.

I'm actually getting ready to post a new blog entry about this exact topic: what I'm learning as an indie author, so check it out for more details. I'll be brutally honest in my post and won't spare any of the gory details.

Hope this helps. Thanks for posting a question!

“She was also completely beautiful: blonde with a face that was ridiculously photogenic and a tall, yet curvy figure that always got plenty of attention from the male population. Basically, she was the kind of friend that I tried never to be photographed with because my fragile self-esteem just didn’t need that kind of torture.”
Reece Evhans, The Stern and Wild Ones

“When I realized that I was spending too long staring at his jean-clad rear end while he walked out to the student parking lot (what can I say?), I reluctantly gathered up my backpack and gym bag and made my way to the locker rooms.”

“As I told Tara, after starting to get to know him, I didn't really believe any of it. He was way too nice to his sister and my grandmother to be a hardened criminal. Besides, I pride myself on making up my own mind about people. I am not a sheep. No, sir.”
Reece Evhans, The Stern and Wild Ones

“It is always the way of events in this life,...no sooner have you got settled in a pleasant resting place, than a voice calls out to you to rise and move on, for the hour of repose is expired.”
Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre
