L. Bachman asked Reece Evhans:

Any advice for newer writers just getting a foot in the door? Anything to watch out for?

Reece Evhans Wow. Well, I really don't think I'm super qualified to answer this, since I'm such a new writer myself, but I am happy to share what I am learning. As a new indie author, I'm having a blast, but the learning curve is steep. I'm navigating the murky waters of twitter, Facebook, goodreads, pinterest, etc., mainly just to get my name out there. I am actively trying to get people to review my book, as well. The two main avenues I am pursuing right now are twitter and goodreads, where I'm just trying to build relationships.

Probably the best advice I have for new writers is to concentrate on your writing more than promoting your work. Don't ignore promotion, but spend the majority of your time writing and polishing, making sure that once people know who you are, there is some great stuff for them to read and be fans of.

Things to watch out for--hmmm. Probably spending too much money on promotion, buying twitter followers, etc.

I'm actually getting ready to post a new blog entry about this exact topic: what I'm learning as an indie author, so check it out for more details. I'll be brutally honest in my post and won't spare any of the gory details.

Hope this helps. Thanks for posting a question!
