Bring Your Daughter To Your Reading

I had a reading last night at the bookstore near where I live. My daughter Nina wanted to go and I thought, yes, let's try this. Let's have Nina see her Mom be a successful writer.

Which is nerve wracking for many reasons. One -- what if people don't come to your reading.

What if you read a scene that is too grown up for your daughter? Which scene isn't too grown up for your daughter.

What if she misbehaves?

And possibility that I had not considered.

What if she wants to make fresh lemonade for everyone to drink before the reading?

So. I found myself making lemonade with her an hour before the event. Sticky fingers, sugar everywhere. That. Two friends came over before the reading and watched, amused, I think, and we drank the prosecco I had bought for the reading.

And, I am not surprised I ended up buying her the hardcover Bad Kitty book she had been craving for weeks.

Two friends from her school came with their parents and so right before I started to read, she took off. I could hear her talking and laughing in another part of the bookstore while I read and answered questions.

I think it was a successful experiment, still.

Finalizing some events.

It is not enough to have a reading any more either. They really are events. When I went to Irina Reyn's launch party, there was this terrific little band playing Russian songs.
