The continuing journey of a self-published author

(If you are reading this at Goodreads, then I apologize for the solid block that the website turns every post into- please go directly to my blog.)If you search my early blog post you will find some information from year 1 and 2.They say that you must sell 9,000 books a week to be in NY times best seller list. If I ever get there, I would not write about it other than to scream out my thanks! So you have something to gage the above against, as of the beginning of 2018 my best sales day was…drumroll…3 books in one day.My record for a month was…11 books.I have been averaging 5 books a month; NY Times need not be notified.I am eternally grateful to anyone who has ever purchased one of my books and even more so for any who have written a review- Thank you.Now where did I leave off? Here I am in year 3; I have stopped writing and focused on advertising. These are my personal results and findings, obviously there is plenty of room for operator error; for most I used $100.00 a week for starters; here you go.1.) Facebook ads- Useless. I still can’t explain their own results, when they tell me I have had 100’s of interactions when only a few show up on my FB and/or my blog counter? I feel ripped off.2.) Twitter ads- Extra traffic at my blog, but no noticeable book sales increase.3.) Google/Bing- What’s less than less than useless?4.) Pinterest- I received some traffic at the blog and people saved my own book cover pins- can’t tell you if this resulted in additional book sales.5.) I was mentioned at a very well-known blog ( Ace Of Spades ) and broke all records- 12 books sold in one day, I think I went to 16 for that month!!!6.) My latest test was CPC ads promoted by a website BookBub -https://landers.bookbub.com/covers/?s... stand for Cost Per Click: you create your ad and then agree to what you are willing to pay each time a person clicks that ad.I have some of these running at Amazon and I get charged 4-10 $ a month, no big deal and that what is getting me my 5 sales a month.BookBub sends the ads to as many locations that sell your book; I stuck to Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and Apple. These have appeared to have boosted me to my best month ever! I think I will recover about 20% of the cost of the ad through these sales, so not viable for long term but to get dozens of books sold each week sure helps keep you feeling a bit energized. This also has seemed to help me get some additional reviews, and to date nothing less than 4 outa 5 (and a couple of 5’s too), so…outstanding!Reviews are so important and I’m not just talking about creating more sales. When you have as few as I have had… you question your work, am I getting onto paper what I see in my head? Are people enjoying the journey? Will people want more (and on and on)?*I read a blog where a successful self-published author stated that he was getting 70% of his sales from his paper-back books. I spent a great deal of time and $$$ 2017 into 2018 getting my books into paperback and have almost no sales, so not sure about that info, maybe increased visibility through additional sales? Anyway……I think I will repeat these ads come November 2018 and see if these successes continue and will continue to look for ways to improve! As always… please leave a review!!!.
