Zahler Books: 2021 Updates on Forbidden Surgeries of the Hideous Dr. Divinus and The Slanted Gutter. Plus: Link to recent interview

My debut graphic novel Forbidden Surgeries of the Hideous Dr. Divinus has been shipped from the printer and will be out the last week of January or shortly afterwards. The piece may be pre-ordered now on Amazon. Digital and print editions of my crime novel The Slanted Gutter will be out in February 2021 and are now available for pre-order at Amazon.

Filmmaker Simon Rumley has this to say about The Slanted Gutter:
"S. Craig Zahler proves himself to be a natural successor to Raymond Chandler and Jim Thompson... [E]xpect to be bludgeoned by the journey and thrilled by it."

And below are some comments on my debut graphic novel, Forbidden Surgeries of the Hideous Dr. Divinus:

"Half a surreal, modern day nightmare, and half evocative of 1940s noir detective films, Forbidden Surgeries of the Hideous Dr. Divinus is comic, creepy, and compelling."
--Peter Dabbene of Foreword Review

"IT'S INSANE. I love it."
--Tim Seeley (Hack/Slash, Grayson)

"With DR. DIVINUS, Zahler arrives as a cartoonist fully formed. It's as if he's been doing this for twenty years. But it's only with this graphic novel, his first, that Zahler has turned his considerable creative talents toward comics. As a medium, comics should feel blessed."
--Benjamin Marra (Terror Assaulter, Night Business)

"S. Craig Zahler brings the same furious energy to his first graphic novel that he does to his music, movies and novels. Forbidden Surgeries of The Hideous Dr. Divinus is a deliberately paced weird horror story with punctuations of cruelty and uncomfortable hilarity." --Josh Simmons (The Furry Trap, Black River)

Immortan Lachlan A shame to hear about the delay for The Slanted Gutter, but excited to see how your graphic novel turns out!

S. Zahler Thanks. I'm hard at work on my second comic at this moment...

message 3: by Nick (new)

Nick I was really looking forward to reading TSG in October. Bummed.

Radiojoker13 Really looking forward to the Slanted Gutter, but glad to hear Forbidden Surgeries is still on track. I’ve never read a graphic novel, so I am just as curious as I am excited.

S. Zahler Thanks for your interest and support!

Bobby Ditta I was able to buy a copy of Slanted Gutter on Amazon this past Tuesday, with the release date listed as October 13th. After it shipped, the Amazon listing changed to a pre-order with a December release date. But my copy arrived today with "October 14 2020" printed on the last page. Feel like this is a cursed copy. Excited to read!

S. Zahler Bobby,

The book should not be out---that was a placeholder file uploaded by a previous publisher onto Amazon and a few were accidentally printed and shipped out before the error was caught. The true final version of the book (which will not be print on demand) should be out in early 2021.
Although I have not seen that leaked version myself, I don't believe there are too many changes from it and final one, beyond some typo corrections and some line changes.

Best,
Zahler

Bobby Ditta Ahh that's a shame, but thanks for the clarification. I'll be sure to pick up the real version when it's out. This one looks pretty nice at least, considering it's print on demand. Love the Ashley Detmering design.

Radiojoker13 I got my copy as well and loving it! Looking forward to the official release.

Josh Love your books man and looking forward to both of these.

By the way, your films Bone Tomahawk, Brawl in Cell Block 99, and Dragged Across Concrete are some of the best films I've seen over the last decade. I also really enjoyed Puppet Master.
