Goodreads Policies

From my Instagram:

I shouldn't be surprised to find that again Goodreads has allowed a pile-on of an author, along with "reviews" that start off "I did not read this book but..." and then go on to trash the author, repeating whatever telephone-game style rumor or innuendo they've absorbed from the most likely culprit being Twitter.

Goodreads should be about readers reviewing books, not people reviewing the purity/morality/politics, etc of others. Authors aren't even in the position of complaining about it because then they are shouted down that they're not "being accountable" or "transparent" or allowing "honest reviews" blah blah blah.

I wanted to take all my books off GR in a small protest however I then found that this would greatly impact my ability to get to retailers and libraries or to market through Bookbubs or newsletters, all of whom take GR ratings and reviews into account as proof that your book is relevant.

I would URGE ARC sites, book sites, retailers to start considering places like BookBub and BingeBooks for ratings rather than Goodreads. Many of us would love to be done with GR but are hamstrung.

I also momentarily forgot my issues with GR and signed up for a giveaway. Because this requires paying GR, I will not be doing this again. Giveaways with only be done via my newsletter (link in bio).

I would urge publishers stop giving GR money until it can show it is a friend to authors not a foe.
