Content creation & syndication: worth the price?

This morning I woke up thinking about syndication. Why? Who knows. πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜›
While living in my youth as a runaway with a gypsy family in a dilapidated old California mansion I was exposed to a few highly creative individuals, one close to the creator of the then underground newspaper, which I'm not sure but think was developed in San Francisco? Anyway, this was then the 'hippy news' - LOL. And it contained several of the now recognisable comic artists like the 'Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers'. Later this cool newspaper was syndicated and IMO lost all its fun and innovation. It just 'dulled down' to reach a wider audience, and I'm sure the creators had pocketed a bit of coinage in the process of its syndication.

My question has always been this: Is commercialising one's work worth the price?

Lately I've been following a few content creators who are adventure travellers. One set of vloggers is a Belgian-French / Italian couple who are well-educated and informative as they journey with their Land Rover into the byways and near impassable trails of Central and South America. And their experiences that they are filming are breathtaking.

Not only this, but the couple takes time to stop along the way and mingle with locals, spending time with them and on occasion working their farms, orchards and/or swapping overnight campsite stories, as the couple are also multi-lingual.

Because of these adventure travellers not only taking time to view and record landscapes, but also to mingle with others and personally reply to follower comments, they have become one of my favourites. Yet, they too are evolving with their logos, presentations and sponsorships.

I don't criticise people who do this, but I wonder how long they can keep up a fresh pace and remain unique while their numbers of followers grow.

Such are the pleasures and problems of being recognised and rewarded for putting oneself out in the world.
