Review of The Snake, The Crocodile and the Dog by Elizabeth Peters

The Snake, the Crocodile & the Dog (Amelia Peabody, #7) The Snake, the Crocodile & the Dog by Elizabeth Peters

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I am currently on a mission to read all of the Peabody mysteries in order. As I am listening to them as audible books they pass the long, tedious commute to and from work very pleasantly. Barbara Rosenblat the narrator IS Amelia.
This particular book is not my favourite for two main reasons:
1. Emerson with or without amnesia is particularly tiresome and on more than one occasion actually hits Amelia. He may claim provocation but that is no excuse. I struggle to find anything remotely appealing about the Emerson of this story.
2.The plot within a plot really stretches the credibility of the reader and the end is a little too much of a "rabbit out of the hat" for me.

On the positive, I like the way Ramses was woven into the story. To believe in Ramses you really have to suspend belief but that is easy enough to do and the ending was very funny!

So no, not my favourite Peabody by any stretch but still, and always an enjoyable way to pass the time.
