Just writing away.

Tonight I was posting a few things on eBay, when I noticed my making jokes in the product descriptions. Does anyone else ever do that?

It got me thinking...

I notice myself doing that a lot; writing things down the way they're going through my head - er, except probably not right now because I'm so tired ((actually, that's a lie: if I wrote what was REALLY going through my head sometimes, people would probably be afraid of me [awkward laugh])).

Right when I started writing Kissing in Cars, I was actually kind of "afraid" to write the things I actually wanted my characters to say, or do. So, as a solution, I made them younger so I wouldn't have to put them in adult situations. Wouldn't have to break out in a sweat trying to describe different parts of the male/female anatomy...

I will also admit, one of the main reasons is - I just could not wrap my brain around people I KNEW reading things I wrote! "If I write something sleazy, my freaking mother is going to read it and how will I look her in the eye." or better yet, MY GRANDMA (who read a few pages and hated it, btw), or some of the students I'm an advisor for.

Once book 2 strolled my way, I had an internal debate with myself: what was this book going to be "rated?" Were the characters going to do it, or not?! Could I actually describe it if they did?! Ugh. Decisions, decisions...

Let me tell you - when you're sitting in Starbucks and someone takes the chair next to you, you tend to hunch over your 14 inch laptop monitor, that's absolutely glowing away, the sex scene you're trying to write minimized every time you take a drink of your Iced Latte. You know - lest the guy next to you thinks you're a loose pervert.

Sigh.

Baby steps... baby steps....
