Music Playlist- Round 1
So, I’m going to do this new thing where I talk about the inspirations for SITW.This week I’m going to explain the music on my writing playlist (read morehere). My first choice of song to explain in relation to the book is “Daniel in the Den” by Bastille.
These are the lyrics:
Moving along at a pace unknown to man
Go go go go go go
Go go go go go
And you thought the lions were bad
Well they tried to kill my brothers
And for every king that died
Oh they would crown another
And it’s harder than you think
Telling dreams from one another
And you thought the lions were bad
Well they tried to kill my brothers
And felled in the night
By the ones you think you love
They will come for you
And felled in the night
By the ones you think you love
They will come for you
Dreaming along at a pace you’ll understand
Go go go go go go
No no no no no
And you thought the lions were bad
Well they tried to kill my brothers
And for every king that died
Oh they would crown another
And it’s harder than you think
Telling dreams from one another
And you thought the lions were bad
Well they tried to kill my brothers
And felled in the night
By the ones you think you love
They will come for you
And felled in the night
By the ones you think you love
They will come for you
Oh, to see what it means to be free
Of the shackles and the dreams
That you claim to see
And felled in the night
By the ones you think you love
They will come for you
And felled in the night
By the ones you think you love
They will come for you
Oh
And felled in the night
By the ones you think you love
They will come for you
And felled in the night
By the ones you think you love
They will come for you
And felled in the night
By the ones you think you love.
Felled in the night
By the ones you think you love.
Felled in the night
By the ones you think you love, love.
This song is special to me and the book because many of the characters fight against the evil that seems to be unstoppable.

To me, this song was the story of Bram and Lyam. Lyam was a “bad” “lion,” but really Lyam wasn’t as evil or heinous as Bram. According to Bram, he felt betrayed by Gabriella as highlighted by the lyrics, “And felled in the night, By the ones you think you love.” Bram would have given anything to be with Gabriella, but she ripped his chances away when she chose the resistance. In that moment, Gabriella could see “what it means to be free of the shackles and the dreams that [she claimed] to see.” Bram took his place beside Lyam and protected the leader of NHT. When Lyam, the “king,” died, NHT “crowned another,” which in this case was Bram. Lines blur between love and the love of power. Eventually Gabriella chose to love freedom more, and Lyam and Bram chose to love power more. This clash can be highlighted throughout this song.
Also, the singing and music of the song is cool enough in itself, even without the meaningful lyrics.I hope you enjoyed this post, feedback is appreciated. Have a fantastic week!
