when I read the part about Mao shipping the glass bottles to be broken up and mixed with the soil and how most of the farmers are barefoot and ended up with bleeding feet, I was so stunned. That had a lasting impact on me (the whole tragic story did) and so when my poor husband happens to quote Mao, I just feel all those feelings again about Mao - what a stupid idea to mix glass with soil!
