It does feel to me like a novella that got out of hand. I like it, but it seems slightly less ambitious in scope and plot than your (other) novels. I'm glad you decided not to split it: it feels like a whole thing, even though it feels like a big novella. Congratulations on freeing yourself from pre-set templates.
I love the novellas in the Pen and Des world, short tales I can reread endlessly. But I screamed for joy when that one came out and it was book sized. It one of my favorites in the series!
It seems to me that the flexibility of the e-format as regards length frees each of the Pen & Des stories to find its proper shape.
The Price family continues to applaud each new work from you, Lois. Whatever the length and whenever the spirit of composition moves you to write.
