Lois McMaster Bujold:
At what point did you decide/realize/suspish/inkle that Assassins of Thasalon would be a novel and not the shorter form usual for Pen and Des and what prompted that decision/realization/suspicion/inkling?
Lois McMaster Bujold
I did persuade myself to start it in the theory it was going to be a novella. When I approached the ~40k word limit for that form and my crew had not yet made it to Thasalon, I conceded. I toyed for a while with splitting it into a novella duology, but decided I'd prefer to keep the story together. As long as it didn't eat a year to write, which it didn't, thankfully. (I still think of it as a novella that got out of hand.) Well, part of the aim of the Pen & Des series was that it was not to be bound to any pre-set template, so, all good.

Heading to Dublin for WorldCon 2019 tomorrow with questions all planned for your kaffeeklatsch, only to discover you won't be there! So glad to see there's an alternative that you're active on, so I can ask my questions here instead. Since I'm character-limited, I'll split them into multiples. First question: do you have a page where you publish your con schedule, or does one have to dig through your blog?

It's a nerd specific question but I admit to being an obsessed fan: what happens to the liveried butter bugs? Do they manage to catch the queen before she burrows into Vorkosigan House, or is Vorbarr Sultana overrun with them. And if so can Miles ( and his Armsman) laugh about it?

This isn’t a ?, just a word of thanks. I was introduced to the Vorkosigan saga this June and today I finished Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen. Thank you so very much for creating this universe full of crazy, real, lovable characters! For the last 5 months your books brought me hours of joy but also made me think and question myself. A separate “thank you”for the latter.
