Kate Davenport He does grow more interesting with every story as does Des, and thanks for that. It is just interesting to wonder if he will become a figure of legend and speculation for his various exploits, just a sketch of himself based on recorded events, or only a name on his books. Regardless, when everyone who ever knew him is gone, who he really is will become something else.

Judy R. Yes, Penric/Desdemona might -- barring accidents -- survive centuries, it would seem, as part of an increasingly crowded personality complex. Do the older human components become less influential, or does it depend upon their quality instead of age?

Jonathan Palfrey Judy R.: I get the impression from what we’ve already seen that the older personality imprints on a demon seem to withdraw into the background, coming out only when called upon for some specific reason.
