Michael, thanks so much for this detailed answer! I've run into numerous kinds of editing choices and it's good to have a breakdown of each role in the process. I guess from your list, the content editor is the toughest one for me to nail down. I have some writer/author friends who have read my stuff and given valuable suggestions, but sometimes I fear the "big issues" might still be missed. I'll have to be diligent about finding someone who can tackle that and who doesn't break the bank!
It's remarkable that a man like Michael J. Sullivan would take the time to put together such a detailed answer with so much useful and helpful information in it. I am so grateful for this information and Michael's willingness to share.
