Andrea Stoeckel The concept of “captivity romances” certainly wasn’t Puritan in any way, shape or form, and neither is”Last of the Mohicans”. As a generational Narragansett, married to a Wendet, we abhor that “bodice ripper” mentality.

As someone who has a background in church history and familiar with New England History (grew up there) I’d say that the first person “captivity narratives” such as Mary Jemerson’s reflect a completely different idea, and that romance novels with roots in Great Britain are simply another way of looking at a trophe frown upon by society (most were written by “Anonymous”).

My suggestion is to forget the academic study or concentrate on Edwardian English novels. Please don't perpetrate more stereotyping.

This is solely my opinion and I am simply stating it, not reflecting anyone else
