Johanna Jacobs
Johanna Jacobs asked Nenia Campbell:

Dear Nenia, I'm working on an academic study of Native American themed romantic novels, and am trying to establish where the modern version of the genre has its roots (beyond, say, Puritan captivity narratives and The Last of the Mohicans). The earliest novel of this type I can find is Janelle Taylor's Savage Ecstasy, and I've just read your review of the book in which you call it the OG of Native American romances?

Nenia Campbell Hi! I meant OG in the sense that it's the oldest and most famous, but not necessarily the first. I feel that it kickstarted the NA romance craze of the 1980s the way Woodiwiss kickstarted bodice rippers with the Flame and the Flower. But that's my opinion, and not backed up by cold hard fact.
