I think it is ok if an author asks their fans for votes, but I am working with Goodreads to make the process better. The final list that publishes is curated, so not all are books are listed AND the list is not in ranked order. I hope this helps. Thanks for your input.

Hi Booklover,
I’m in a group where we are currently discussing shady things authors, their assistants, managers, friends/families and street teams do to promote their books. May I please get you to private message who that author is? If possible, may I please get a screenshot and/or link? I’ll love to share that to the group I’m in. Thank you.

Hi B..."
I couldn’t message you. You can message me and I’ll reply back with links and screenshots.

Hi B..."
I don't believe there is anything wrong with authors asking their fans to vote for them on a listopia list. If they are paying for votes, yes. I agree shady things happen, but I do not think this is one of them.

Nothing is wrong with authors asking people to vote for their books but it does ruin the “most anticipated list”. And since my first comment, this author I speak of, has started a giveaway and one of the entries to the “giveaway” is a vote for her book on this list. Sure, she isn’t directly paying for votes but what she is doing is just as shady.

I message you. Please check your inbox.

Very deceitful in my opinion and needs to be share. Please send me the link or sceeenshot. Thank you.

I would love to take this most anticipated list seriously but when you are allowing authors to ask for votes in exchange for an entry for a contest, not only is that shady but also skewing with the truth.

Hi Elizabeth, I'm not allowing anything, because I am unable to control what authors do outside of Goodreads. I only use this list to curate books from it for the final list that posts, so I will not include a book if the votes seem unrealistic. (I did this for April.) This Listopia list is supposed to be fun and not a contest, so I am sorry. If it doesn't feel like an accurate representation then it makes sense for you to ignore the results.

Hi Mary,
When I said you, it wasn’t meant directly at you and I should’ve made it clear in the first place. Yes, I agree that this list is supposed to be fun. There are some of us that have books that we can’t wait for and we have no connection to authors, their family, friends, street teams etc...To know that there is an author manipulating this is very disappointing and it does ruin the fun not to mention most anticipating book list. And yes, because I no longer think this is an accurate representation, I’ll make sure to share this so that people know what is going on. In no way, do I blame you, so no need to apologize. It’s not your fault an author chose to do shady things.

Please, please if you are going to vote on these types of lists, check the publication date. Thank you.
