Jessica Sims asked Jacqueline Winspear:

I absolutely adore Maisie and her world! I love the characters, the details, and the obvious research and care you put into each book. I’m curious, how many drafts do you typically write before you send a novel to your publisher? I’m an aspiring author myself, and fascinated by the inner workings of those I admire!

Jacqueline Winspear This is where I fess up. I write my story and send it to my editor. Given the amount of work I do, I write very deeply, and by the time I finish the novel, the deadline is upon me. This is not usual, but it works for me and my editor. I should add that by the time I start to write, I know where I'm going and how I'm going to get there - much of the book is written in my head. After my editor receives the books, I do two more revisions, and then the book goes into copyediting. And I never, ever revise as I go along - that really is not a good idea.
