Ike asked Kate Quinn:

I have just finished Daughters of Rome and realized that actually the period of the Roman Empire in the Mistress of Rome is after the period from Daughters of Rome. I think it would be better if these two books had changed order in the series, because of the chronology. Beside this, I really enjoyed the first two books and would love to read the next.

Kate Quinn If I were doing it over and planning a series properly, I would have done "Daughters" first. But Mistress was written first as a standalone, and seven years later it was picked up for publication while I was working on Daughters as an entirely different standalone. It was only at that point that I realized some fiddling would give me a prequel! So the out-of-order chronology happened entirely by accident.
