The idea for the Inheritance Cycle came from my love for the magic of stories and how they can transport the reader into fantastical places. Also, I was inspired by the book JEREMY THATCHER, DRAGON HATCHER, by Bruce Coville, the tale of a boy who buys a “stone” from which a dragon hatches. I liked the idea so much, I couldn’t get it out of my head. So I asked three questions: what land would a dragon egg come from, who would find it, and—since dragon eggs can’t be common—who else would be looking for it? My quest to answer those questions led me to envision the story that became ERAGON.

I'm sure you've been asked this before, countless times; but what compelled you to begin writing Eragon? Also, I must thank you for having introduced me to "real" (fervent, as opposed to forced) reading all those years (a.k.a. around 5 years) ago. I feel as if thought I might be forever in your debt. :D

I first read the Inheritance Cycle last summer and LOVED them. I currently own the first three books, and I am frequently on eBay trying to find Inheritance for a good price. I came across a copy that appears to be signed by you and someone named "Gerard Dyke". I tried searching for the name but nothing came up. Do you know if this is an illustrator or a publisher that had some part in Inheritance? Thanks :)
