You know a mystery that haunts me? Why certain authors aren't still household names.
Take Michael McDowell. His novel THE ELEMENTALS is scary enough to void even the stoutest bladder.
Or John Farris. He was famous once, but unlike Richard Matheson, who is still famous and deserves to still be famous, most modern readers are unacquainted with him. This is a shame. Novels like SACRIFICE, ALL HEADS TURN WHEN THE HUNT GOES BY, and SON OF THE ENDLESS NIGHT are towering novels in the horror genre. They'll also wreak havoc on your bladder.
Or what about Joan Samson. Nobody really remembers her. But they should. Her book THE AUCTIONEER is a slow-dawning nightmare that's plausible enough to make a guy paranoid. Or to make you refuse to answer the door when someone new comes to town.
How about David Case, whose story "The War Is Over" is still giving me nightmares? Or Joseph Payne Brennan, whose "Canavan's Backyard" is as creepy as that Beethoven book cover with the kid on the musician's lap. Look it up. You'll be scarred for life.
Anyway, Goodreads Auto-Question-Generator, this is a mystery from my life that could be a plot for a book. Then again, people would forget about the book twenty years after I wrote it because that's what people do.

Jonathan Janz:
Hi Jonathan, I just read COTD. My only disappointment is that I did not find this book sooner! Seriously, I loved it so much. One of my favorite kind of books to read is coming of age/horror/scifi. So of course I loved it. My question is did you write Savage Species after COTD? COTD is the only book of yours I have read so far, so does Savage Species continue on that story?

Jonathan Janz:
Hey Jonathan, I just finished COTD and enjoyed it a lot! I saw that you mentioned a sequel to be released 2018-ish continuing the story of Will. But all I can find is your novel Savage Species set in the same world but with different characters. While I, obviously, will read SS, have I overlooked the sequel to COTD or is it not released yet, and if so, is it still scheduled to be released in the future?
