The best advice I ever received was 'write what you want to read.' Doing that prevents writers block- also knowing your craft and reading like crazy. It's a pretty cool thing that "researching" is just reading awesome books from amazing authors.
If anything, just get started. You can talk about ideas and wanting to write all you want, but just sit down and do it :)
