Goodreads asked R. Scot Johns:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

R. Scot Johns "I" is a book I've been wanting to write for quite some time (something like thirty years, in fact). Ayn Rand's "Anthem" left me with many questions, which only deepened on repeated readings. The first and most obvious was, "What happens next?" Prometheus vows to return and free his brothers, but how exactly would he do this? How does one free a people who do not even know they are enslaved?

Then last summer my niece was reading the 50th Anniversary Edition of "Anthem" and we began discussing it, over coffee and on long hikes in the mountains. The ideas developed as we tossed them back and forth, and one day she turned to me and said "you have to write that!" So I did.
