Goodreads asked Arul Dev:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Arul Dev Writer’s block indicates to me that the written sentences that have emerged in say a chapter, is not in sync with what is the inner idea/ experience/ insight that is trying to express through the words.

Then the flow is cut and words do not flow.

Words flow when a) I am in touch with the idea/ experience and b) what is written is embodying the idea/experience and expressing it as best as possible.

The moment I feel the cut of flow I step back and wait. I connect back into the idea/experience deeper. I wait to see if words now start to flow by themselves to express the idea/experience. If it is not flowing I shift to another action or work. But a part of my being I keep in reception or attentive mode. Often suddenly I get a ‘pop-up’ – some thing gets clear or some words form, which are better expressions of the idea. If I am in a place to write I begin writing. If not, I record the clarity on my mobile or jot it down on a paper, and write it down when it is possible next.

This is the method I have used. Sometimes the block or lack of flow gets dissolved within minutes and sometime after a few months. But the method that has worked for me remains the same.
