Michael J. Sullivan
The tricky part of answering this question is figuring out which is intended to be "my most recent book"? Hollow World is the most recent book I published, but I've written three manuscript drafts since then. In reality it doesn't matter.
I don't get "an idea" for any novel. For me novels are too complex to be based on a single idea. Book are more of a container where a lot of ideas are thrown and left to grow into something interesting. Most books I write are the result of years and often decades of ideas that I have played with in my head.
Hollow World was filled with all sorts of ideas, as anyone reading it can easily tell. The series I am presently in the middle of, is an idea I began formulating in 2004 as part of the ancient history of the Riyria Revelations, and I'm still throwing ideas into it.
I know that all sounds like I am sidestepping your question. So here's the real answer...a guy named Bob.

Just finished The Disappearance of Winter's Daughter. Wow! What a great story! Loved it! Question: I _thought_ I've read everything regarding Riyria, but in the Author's Note in this book, you mentioned this is the 10th book about Royce and Hadrian? I can't get the math to add up, so which book am I missing? Revelations (3 books) + Chronicles (4) + The Jester + ??

Now that I've listened to "Professional Integrity", I'm even more convinced that you could be a great author of detective fiction, if you ever decided to try it. I had already noticed in the Riyria books some elements and devices, and some writing skills, that are typical of that genre. And Royce could be a great detective, besides being a great criminal... So, have you ever thought of writing detective fiction?

Thanks! I've been pulled towards marketing my first book so much this week (launch week), and I'm missing the time writing book #2. You're answer up top just gave me permission! 10% of my time seems about right for the marketing. Besides, I know what I'm doing as a writer....marketing is a whole other ball game. I may need to outsource? Any thoughts on that?
