Doris Mahala asked Jennifer Ashley:

GAAA! 61 and want to be a published author, which would be a lifetime wish to come true. Hard work has caused to become disabled now have plenty of time on my hands. When did you know you wanted to write? Who inspired you? What prep. work did you do to become the author that you have

Jennifer Ashley I hate to say this, but hard work is also part of being an author, just different hard work. I wanted to be an author since I was a kid, inspired by my love of reading. I didn't do any prep work--I just started writing (i.e., my degree is in English literature, but not creative writing. I know many authors who have degrees in accounting or science). My best advice is to read a ton of books, especially in the genre or style that interests you most, and then start writing. You learn to write by doing it. Don't worry if your first efforts are not as good as you want them to be. Just keep at it.
