Joanie Chevalier
Joanie Chevalier asked Annette Spratte:

Survivor. Loved this short story. This feels so personal too. Is the emotionally-scarred character Josie part of the author Annette?

Annette Spratte Excellent question. Yes and no. What Josie has gone through is in no way autobiographical. The trauma she suffered (if you want to learn more about that, you'll have to read the next book) is purely fictional. But her emotional state as described in Survivor is something familiar to me, without the nightmares. My home was not a happy one, my relationship to my father very distant while my mother was emotionally abusive.
Parts of me and my experience are scattered all over my characters. So I cannot say Josie represents me or - in the follow-up - Jim or Stacey or Lisa represents me. They all do and yet they are all their own personalities, acting in ways I never would.
Glad it touched you!
