Lois McMaster Bujold:
I just finished the Sharing Knife series and was wondering if you plan on revisiting the world again in the (near) future? Also, what are the malices? Any chance we will get an idea of their true origin?
Lois McMaster Bujold
I don't have any plans at this time for visiting the deep backstory of that world. Other things, well, never say never, but I have nothing to report at this time. The malices were a kind of magical-scientific accident, possibly during some pursuit of powering up mage-craft and pursuing immortality; they partake of something human crossed with something nonhuman. They do seem to have something insectoid in their makeup, but it may also include theft of aspects from the now-absent gods. (If there ever were gods.) Howsoever the individual elements that went into them were healthy enough in their original forms, the amalgam was a disaster.

Ms Bujold Did you know Ursula Le Guin? I ask because (doh) I can't ask her... I just reread "Coming of Age in Karhide", one of her best shorts, set in Gethen/Winter https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2690808608 (which has a link to the story. Anyway -- The Gethenian aren't homo saps -- we are the exceptions in the world of mammals, being permanently in kemmer -- a perversion, to their eyes. [to be con'd]

This is less a question and more an observation. In Captain Vorpatril's Alliance, when ImpSec is sinking, Illyan comments that the people running out of the building probably grew up in earthquake country. Having grown up in earthquake country, the people who would be running out of a shaking building are everyone else. EQ country people won't even notice quakes that make non-EQ country people run out.?

Not sure how it could turn into a story considering the long-term calamity it would end with.
