I recently finished The Secrets She Keeps, and I found a video clip where you share that your inspiration for the plot came from a 1991 news story you reported on, as a journalist in the UK. You didn't want to disclose more detail than that, to avoid spoilers. But can you share a link to the article (if it's archived online) or title/source/date (if it's not)--for readers who have completed the book and are curious?

I hope I didn't use the word 'inspiration'. I don't like to think any crime inspires a writer. I prefer to think it planted the seed of an idea, which I let grow in my imagination.

Congratulations on the Gold dagger Michael. Life or Death was a great novel. The characters lived and breathed. The honorable melancholy of Audie Palmer still permeates my memory months later. That is all I wanted to say but I know I am supposed to ask a question here ... so ... have you ever read any of George MacDonald Fraser's Flashman series? I have a feeling Vincent Ruiz would like him ;)

Is this a thing you can ask? Do you have a brother? I went to primary school in Coffs Harbour and shared classes with a smart shy Robotham - but I think he’d be three years younger? Apologies if this is too far away from a literary question! I am a writer and volunteering at a writers fest where I think you’ll be appearing. So as you can see, the overlap is uncanny… (insert smiling emoji)
