Where do you find inspiration for your characters? Are their personalities driven from real criminals, friends, or people you see in passing?

Good question. The easy answer is they come entirely from my imagination, just dreamed up in my head. That said, I'm sure they are all composites of personality traits and quirks that I see in people I know, people I pass by, people in movies. But when I'm writing I'm almost never thinking about a real life person.

Did you spend any time living in the UK? Just wondering if the saying 'write what you know' holds true here considering more than one of your characters has lived there for work or school in their early 20s. Based on the number of cats, books/bookstores, and alcoholic beverages in your books, I'm not even going to ask if you like or 'know' those three things. :) PS - you are my favorite author!

Hi Peter I have a question about Mystery books I'm writing a crime book thats set in Melbourne Australia and I've got this idea of a backstory of two characters in the book I'm writing. Are backstories involving 2 characters good for a mystery book or would the readers get confused? Kind regards Bridget Gaynor
