Charles Todd Veterans receved long term treatment in the Old Soldiers Homes. Sadly, the clinics where the severely wounded were treated stayed open until the last patient died. For many there was no cure. So we had to consider what Bess’s future would be in real life. The Queen Alexandra’s began “retiring” the thousands of nurses needed during the war, and transferring others to teaching. Clinics began to close, moving patients as those who could have a normal life were released. She has to make a decision. And soon. Meanwhile, the Irish nurse Bess saved when Britannic went down is about to get married in Ireland. She wants Bess as her Maid of Honor. And Bess takes some leave to go. Only to find that a simple village wedding can lead to a frightful turn of events. Bess will have to use her nursing skills and her wits to get out of there alive. And she can’t do it alone, this time.
